Jia is the second of our amazing speakers, and she took the time to share her story with us:
Jia’s crush on the world of fashion and style began as a one year old in North Africa where she would grab her baby shoes, imaginary handbag, and miniature cart to “shop” around her mother’s living room.
Over the course of her career, that crush became a full blown love affair as the baby shoes became stilettos, the living room became boutiques, and the handbag…well, some things never change!
In addition to her work as a fashion writer, photographer, and stylist, Jia has enjoyed a successful career influencing some of the largest fashion retailers including Guess, Below the Belt, Aldo, and bebe. She has contributed to a number of fashion magazines and is the organizer of a Fashion & Beauty (FAB) Blogger group consisting of 200+ bloggers in California.
In the fall of 2013, Jia left behind a 16 year career working in fashion retail to create Studio 15. During a trip to Gulu, Uganda to volunteer in helping local women develop sustainable businesses, the inexhaustible spirit and daring of the women she met inspired Jia to pursue her dream and combine her two passions: fashion and philanthropy.
Studio 15 is based on the belief that modern, fashion forward pieces should be reasonably priced without compromising quality or style.
Jia also has not forgotten where the dream of Studio 15 began and donates a portion of each sale to support women entrepreneurs in developing countries through a partnership with Kleos Microfinance.
